Privacy Policy

LocalGear Inc. ("LocalGear", "we") is building a tool rental marketplace, launching first in Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph, Ontario. This policy explains what we collect when you join our waitlist, and what we do with it. It follows the principles of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

When you join the waitlist, you give us:

• Your first name and email address
• The first three characters of your postal code (for example, N2L). We never ask for your full postal code or street address.
• Whether you want to rent out tools, rent tools, or both
• If you're an owner: the kinds of tools you might list. If you're a renter: what you'd like to rent and roughly when (optional free text)
• Whether you ticked the box agreeing to receive launch emails, and the date and time you did

We also record the time of your signup and, if the link you came from has them, its campaign tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign), so we can tell which post or ad brought you here. These tags are kept in your browser's session storage while you're on the site and are not cookies.

Our hosting provider (see below) may keep standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security and reliability. We don't run analytics or advertising trackers on this site, and we don't use cookies.

Why we collect it

• To run the waitlist and decide where and who to launch to first (the postal code prefix and the tools people have or want help us see demand by area)
• To email you launch updates, only if you ticked the consent box
• If you signed up as a tool owner: to contact you personally about getting set up before launch (see below)
• To reply to you if you get in touch with us

We don't use your information for anything unrelated to these purposes without asking you first.

Email and consent

The email consent box is unticked by default and is optional. You can join the waitlist without ticking it. If you tick it, we may send you launch updates. Every email will identify LocalGear Inc. and include a way to unsubscribe. You can also withdraw your consent at any time by emailing hello@localgear.ca.

If you signed up as a tool owner, we may email you personally before launch about listing your tools, even if you didn't tick the box. That's a direct follow-up to your signup, not a mailing list. If you'd rather we didn't, reply and tell us, and we'll stop.

Where it's stored, and who sees it

Waitlist submissions are stored by Netlify, Inc., the service that hosts this website and processes the form. Netlify is a U.S. company, so your information may be stored or processed outside Canada, and may be accessible to authorities in those places under their laws. Only people at LocalGear who work on the launch can access the list. If we later add an email service to send updates, we'll update this policy.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist information until launch and early onboarding are complete. If you haven't created a LocalGear account within 24 months of signing up, we delete your waitlist information. We delete it sooner if you ask.

Your rights, and deleting your information

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email hello@localgear.ca from the address you signed up with, and we'll respond within 30 days. If we can't fully honour a request, we'll tell you why.

Safeguards

Access to the waitlist is limited and protected by our hosting provider's account security. No system is perfectly secure, but we only collect what we need to reduce what could be exposed.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above.
