Owners mark the days their gear is free on a calendar. Renters see those dates up front, pick theirs, and send a booking request. The owner approves or declines. No back-and-forth just to find a day that works.

if you own tools…
Lend what you're not using
- List them. Add a few photos, set your daily rate, and mark the days they're free on your calendar.
- Approve requests. Booking requests come in for open dates only. You approve or decline each one.
- Get paid. Earn from equipment that would otherwise sit unused.

Borrow it from down the street
- Browse by date. See what's free near you on the days you need it. No need to ask.
- Request to book. Pick your dates and send a request. Once the owner approves, it's yours.
- Pick up and return. Meet your neighbour, run through a quick checklist, and bring it back on time.

When and where does LocalGear launch?
We're launching first in Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph, Ontario. We don't have a launch date yet. Join the waitlist and we'll be in touch as it firms up. If you're elsewhere, sign up anyway: where people join from helps us pick our next city.
Can I earn money by renting out my tools?
That's the idea. You'll set your own rates and availability, and you decide whether to accept each request. We can't say yet what any tool will earn.
What if my gear gets damaged or isn't returned?
Set a security deposit. You choose the deposit for each item. It's held on the renter's card and released once your gear comes back in good shape. If something's damaged, the deposit can go toward it.
Rent only to verified renters, if you like. Renters can verify their ID with us, and you'll be able to choose to accept bookings only from verified renters.
Everything is documented. Pickup and return checklists record your gear's condition, and you choose who you lend to.
LocalGear doesn't offer insurance or a damage guarantee, and a deposit may not cover everything, so set one that fits what you're lending.
Do I have to accept every rental request?
No. You review each request and decide whether to approve or decline it.
What happens to my information?
We use it only for the waitlist and launch planning, and we never sell it. Details are in our privacy policy. You can ask us to delete it anytime at hello@localgear.ca.
